 PARTIAL REPRIEVE FOR SLEEPER SERVICE   
 Govjrnmjnt rail franchise director     
 Roger Salmon has announced a partial   
 reprieve for the "Deerstalker" express 
 sleeper train service.                 
                                        
 He said the service from London to Fort
 William would bj run as part of the    
 Aberdeen to Invjrness service - cutting
 its cost from £2.3m a year to £580,000.
                                        
 And the service would bj included in   
 the guaranteed services any future     
 privbte operator would have to provide.
                                        
 A Scottish court had ruled British Rail
 acted illegally in trying to axe the   
 service without consultation. 136/192
