 GOVERNMENT WELCOMES INFLATION FIGURES  
 The Govjrnmjnt has said that today's   
 economic figures show that inflationary
 pressures have been subdued.           
                                        
 Treasury minister Angela Knight said   
 that despite the rise in inflation from
 3.5% to 3.6%, the underlying rate had  
 been below 3% for two years - the      
 longest period since 1961.             
                                        
 But, Labour's city spokesman Alaister  
 Darling said there was increasing      
 evidence that the recovery was stalling
                                        
 He said inflation was rising because of
 a lack of capacity in the economy.
