The young, I think, will like it a lot, but there's food for thought, too, for parents who fob kids off with video games instead of books for Christmas. "What do you want a book for," asks the crass De Vito, "when you got the television?" De Vito wisely gives the cruelty of Roald Dahl's story a cartoon quality which should make it more approachable.
