 PROBATION OFFICERS IN JAIL SEARCH ROW  
 Probation officers forced to undergo   
 intimate body searches before entering 
 jails are refusing to carry out visits.
                                        
 They wire an "outrageous slur" on the  
 officers' professionalism and could    
 amount to assault, their union said.   
                                        
 The stringent search rules are a recent
 introduction. One probation officer was
 told it was because officers were seen 
 as "friends of the prisoners".         
                                        
 The Prison Service said it had the     
 right to search anyone entering a jail.
