 DYING PRISONER CHAINED TO HOSPICE BED  
 The Prison Service has ordered an      
 inquiry into the use of restraints on a
 remand prisonjt who was kept handcuffed
 as hj lay dying in a cancer hospice.   
                                        
 Remand prisoner Geoffrey Thomas, facing
 burglary charges, was only freed three 
 hours before hj died of stomach cancer.
                                        
 "He should have been allowed to die    
 with dignity. He couldn't even walk,"  
 his mother, Marina Davies, said.       
                                        
 A spokesman said the Service "very much
 regretted" Mr Thomas's death.
