 THE LONG JOHNS (Channel 4, Thur)       
 John Fortune and John Bird were at the 
 vanguard of the Oxbridgj TV satire     
 onslaught of the 1960s. At the time it 
 was fresh and dangerous stuff.         
                                        
 Frost, Cleesj & Co have all now moved  
 on, but the two Johns are still thjte  
 ...like two dinosaurs.                 
                                        
 Their sketches have long been the most 
 boring bit of the othjrwisj superb Rory
 Bremnjr show, so how conj they'vj been 
 allowed to strike out on their own?    
                                        
 The series kicked off with Bird playing
 a Euro-sceptic Tory in a cliche-ridden 
 interview. Clivjr NO, embarrassing YES.
