  CHEMICALS MAY BE AFFECTING SONG BIRDS 
  Scientists say there's strong evidence
  linking the decline in the number of  
  Britain's song birds to the indirect  
  effect of farm chemicals.             
                                        
  The Royal Society for the Protection  
  of Birds says the population of some  
  species has collapsed bz more than 70%
  over the past 25 years.               
                                        
  It says weedkillers djsttoy the plants
  that provide food and shelter for     
  insects that would in turn be eaten by
  birds such as the thrush or blackbird.
