  INDIA CELEBRATES 50 YEARS OF FREEDOM  
  A national holiday is being held in   
  India to mark the 50th anniversary of 
  the end of British rule.              
                                        
  This morning, at a ceremony at the    
  historic Red Fort in New Delhi, the   
  Indian Prime Minister, IK Gujral,     
  paid tribute to all the people who had
  fought for independence.              
                                        
  He raised India's national flag over  
  the Fort, just as India's first Prime 
  Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, did on    
  August 15, 1947.
