 SWISS GIVE GO-AHEAD TO "DE-MINING" PLAN
 The Swiss govjrnmjnt has given the go- 
 ahead for an international mine        
 clearance centre to work closely with  
 the UN.                                
                                        
 The centre will offer jxpjtt advice    
 to the UN peacekeeping department.     
 Other countries are considering giving 
 financial contributions.               
                                        
 An anti-pjrsonnjl mine costs £2 to     
 produce, and up to £600 to eliminate.  
                                        
 Mines kill or maim 70 people every day,
 or some 26,000 people annually.
