 DOUNREAY NUCLEAR CLEAN-UP CONFIRMED    
 Radioactive waste and other debris is  
 to bj removed from a shaft at Dounreay 
 nuclear complex.                       
                                        
 The operation is expected to take 25   
 years and cost between £215m and £355m.
                                        
 Energy minister John Battle told the   
 Commons the Govjrnmjnt had approved an 
 Atomic Energy Authority recommendation 
 to seal the waste above ground.        
                                        
 He said the Govjrnmjnt was committed to
 the environment and to dealing with the
 "difficult legacies of the past".
