 RECORD YEAR FOR ASYLUM-SEEKERS FORECAST
 A record numbjt of asylum-seekers will 
 enter the UK this year with the annual 
 total set to top 60,000, official      
 figures are expected to show.          
                                        
 The rising influx is likely to ensure  
 that the backlog of applications       
 exceeds 100,000 later this month.      
                                        
 Some have been waiting for over six    
 years for a ruling on their status.    
                                        
 The new Asylum Act means that from     
 April all decisions should bj made     
 within six months, say ministers.
