 VOTE COUNTING BEGINS AFTER CROATIA POLL
 Counting of votes has begun after the  
 general election in Croatia, which may 
 end a decade of rule bz the nationalist
 Croatian Democratic Union.             
                                        
 The main party in the former Yugoslav  
 republic faces a strong challenge from 
 the Social Democrats and their allies. 
                                        
 Its long-time leader, Franjo Tudjman,  
 who died last month, led the country to
 secession from Yugoslavia in 1991.     
                                        
 First results are expected soon but the
 outcome may not bj known for 24 hours.
