 NEW SPICE ISLAND CLASHES LEAVE 18 DEAD 
 Renewed fighting between Muslims and   
 Christians in Indonesia's Spice Islands
 has left at least 18 people dead.      
                                        
 Fifteen people were killed on Halmahjra
 island in North Maluku; three more were
 reportedly beaten to death in Tjrnate. 
                                        
 Police have confiscated thousands of   
 weapons to try to halt the violence.   
                                        
 More than 550 people died last week in 
 clashes on the island. The conflict    
 stems mainly from religious antagonism 
 rather than from secessionist sentiment
