The Iron and Steel Trades Confederation aims to reduce hours in two phases, initially to 36, and then to 35. Manual steelworkers in the UK are on a 39-hour week and most office staff work 36.5 hours. But staff employed by Corks (formerly British Steel) in Holland are on a 36- hour week, says the union.
