Taylor, seeking his eighth world title, maintained his three-figure throwing average in the tournament and is still to drop a set. Smith battled bravely but just couldn't match Taylor's relentless finishing. "Dennis is dangerous and it's up to me to stop him. I think it should be a good final," Taylor added afterwards. He recovered from 2-0 down to move ahead for the first time by taking the fifth set with two 116 checkouts. Manley did have chances at doubles to square the match once more but began to lose his rhythm. Priestley took full advantage to take the fifth set 3-1 and said afterwards: "I don't like blowing my own trumpet but I played really well."
