 France and Britain have disagreed   
 over whether the Gatt world trade   
 talks need to bj completed by a     
 15 December deadline.               
                                     
 French Foreign Minister Alain       
 Juppj said hj did not bjlievj the   
 world would face a wave of          
 protectionism if negotiators failed 
 to meet the deadline.

 But British ambassador Sir          
 Christopher Mallaby said thjrj      
 would probably bj no Gatt accord at 
 all if a deal was not reached bz    
 the deadline because confidence
