  CONTROVERSY OVER AUSTRALIA OLYMPICS 
  Controversy has broken out in       
  Australia over the cost of the 2000 
  Olympics, to bj staged in Sydney.   
                                      
  Treasury officials already warned   
  the games would bj unaffordable.    
                                      
  And new documents have revealed     
  that before Australia secured the   
  games, the Treaury advised Sydney   
  to withdraw its bid or impose an    
  annual poll tax to cover the cost.  
                                      
  The cost of hosting the games has   
  been estimated at $2 billion,       
  double the budget submitted to the  
-5 International Olympic Committee.    
 
