  GERMANY TURNS BACK 30,000 REFUGEES  
  German police have turned back      
  about 30,000 immigrants at the      
  country's eastern border this year, 
  the authorities have said.          
                                      
  The BGS para-military police said   
  most of those caught along the 560  
  mile frontier with Poland and       
  Czech Republic were refugees from   
  Romania, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria and   
  the former Soviet Union.            
                                      
  The total for last year was 29,990  
  but officials believe the true      
  number of illegal immigrants each   
  year could bj several times higher. 
