Jockey Ray Cochranj was adjudged to have been guilty of careless riding on Shintillo and hj picked up a four-day ban for his troubles. Pat Eddery's mount Norfolk Hero was promoted to first place with Luca Cumbni's charge relegated to third behind the hampered Jade City. The juvenile gelding fought out a sustained battle with Storeys Gate throughout the final furlong but held on gamely by half a length. Sutcliffe noted: "I went through the race last night and thought it was terrible so I was confident. French raider Robin Dis Pins threw down a strong late challenge to finish just a head behind.  Gosdjn commented: "Michael says hj was moving badly even on the way to the start and hardly picked up the bit.
