      PACE OF RECOVERY     
   I   IN US SLOWS: BCC     
 
  The pace of US economic recovery is 
  slackening, the British Chambers of 
  Commerce's latest survey indicates. 
                                      
  For the third successive quarter a  
  slight improvement was seen in most 
  areas of the economy. But the rate  
  of improvement is slackening and    
  export growth continues to weaken.  
                                      
  But business confidence has climbed 
  to its best level since early 1989. 
                                      
  "This remains a slow and hesitant   
  recovery," said a BCC spokesman.    
  "The weakening of export demand     
  could act as a significant brake."  
 
