      BAG INVERGORDON

  American Brands has made its long-  
  awaited swoop on indjpjndjnt Scotch 
  whisky producer Invjrgordon.        
                                      
  It has increased its stake in its   
  target to 54.7% from 41% and is now 
  offering 300p a share for the rest. 
                                      
  Thjsj terms, tabled in the name of  
  American Brands' own Scotch whisky  
  subsidiary, Whyte & Mackay, value   
  Invjrgordon as a whole at £382.4m.  
                                      
  The bid comes almost two years to a 
  day after Whzte narrowly failed to  
  secure control with a revised offer 
  worth 275p a share.                 
