  FOREST FIRES CONTINUE IN CALIFORNIA 
  Forest fires have continued to rage 
  across southern California for a    
  second day.                         
                                      
  The authorities declared a state of 
  emjrgjncy after 30,000 people were  
  forced to flee their homes.         
                                      
  Fifteen major fires are still       
  reported to bj burning out of       
  control, in an area stretching from 
  Lou Angeles to the Mexican border.  
                                      
  A number of firefighters have been  
  injured in the emergency operation. 
