  CAR SALES SHOW FURTHER INCREASE     
  New car sales rose 15.5% last       
  month, according to new figures.    
                                      
  Sales for October totalled 126,305, 
  compared with 109,373 for the same  
  period last year, said the Society  
  of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. 
                                      
  The latest figures took total sales 
  to 1,577,022 so far this year - up  
  12.1% on January to October 1992.   
                                      
  The SMMT said the rise was a result 
  of intense marketing but some       
  dealers cast doubt on the figures,  
  saying a flood of end-of-month      
  sales was distorting the market.    
