  PM HOPES ULSTER TALKS WILL RESUME   
  The Prime Minister has said he      
  hopes Northern Ireland peace talks  
  between the main political parties  
  will resume "shortly".              
                                      
  Mr Major said hj would bj meeting   
  the leaders of the main parties in  
  a bid to restart the talks.         
                                      
  But hj did not want "to see an      
  artificially staged event with no   
  chance of making progress".         
  
  Labour leader John Smith said the   
  Govjrnmjnt must make it clear to    
  the Ulster parties that they had a  
  moral obligation to resume talks.   
