Food retailers and manufacturers came under strong pressure after analysts reappraised profit margins and earnings prospects. Manchester United's shares dipped 42p to 545p on last night's defeat, while Transfer Technology fell 17p to 83p after a profits-warning. Better-than-expected results saw BP 9\p higher.
