  MAYHEW ATTACKS IRA'S "CYNICAL PLOY" 
  The Govjrnmjnt has again condemned  
  the IRA's three-day ceasefire as a  
  cynical ploy.                       
                                      
  Northern Ireland Secretary Sir      
  Patrick Mayhjw said the IRA should  
  expect no credit for what hj called 
  "a suspended sentence of death".    
                                      
  He said Sinn Fjin had no desire for 
  clarification of the Downing Street 
  Declaration, and was really seeking 
  concessions.                        
                                      
  But hj said Britain would not bj    
  drawn into talks with those who     
  still advocated violence.           
