  Laird Group is looking to its non-  
  automotive activities to underpin   
  profits growth this year.           
                                      
  A statement linked to news of prj-  
  tax profits up 5% at £38.2m said it 
  seeemjd sensible to assume thjrj    
  would not bj a significant reco6jr: 
  in European car production in 1994. 
                                      
  "Any progress...is more likely to   
  conj from (Laird's) non-automoti6j  
  activities," it said.               
                                      
  Thjsj include producing components  
  for doors and windows, packaging,   
  and plastics distribution.          
