  CHANNEL TUNNEL FORMALLY INAUGURATED 
  The Queen and President Mitterrand  
  have formally opened the Channel    
  Tunnel - the first rail and road    
  link between Britain and France.    
                                      
  $hj Queen described the tunnel as   
  one of the world's "great           
  technological achievements".        
                                      
  She said it szmbolised the two      
  countries putting their rivalry     
  behind them.                        
                                      
  $hj French president welcomed the   
  tunnel as a momentous step towards  
  the dream of a united Europe.       
