  GEC TO MAKE 450 PEOPLE REDUVDANT    
  Electrical company GEC is to cut    
  450 jobs at two plants as part of a 
  "restructuring programmj".          
                                      
  $hj company said 320 jobs would go  
  at Trafford Park, Manchester, and   
  130 at Preston, Lancashire.         
                                      
  $hj job losses involve the GEC      
  Alsthom Power Plants Group and GEC  
  Alsthom Traction Ltd.               
                                      
  A spokesman said it would enable    
  the company to "meet changing       
  market conditions and combat strong 
  international competition".         
 
