  SMITH HAS LEFT US UVITED - BECKETT  
  John Smith has left Labour          
  "enormously united", acting party   
  leader Margaret Beckett has said.   
                                      
  She told BBC Radio that the party   
  was stronger than it had ever been  
  in her political memory.            
                                      
  Mrs Beckett added Labour now had to 
  make sure that it fulfilled John    
  Smith's visions for Europe.         
                                      
  She said hj had wanted to build a   
  European Union that was "strong and 
  fine" and the party needed to work  
  towards that in the Euro-elections. 
 
