  Margaret Beckett would make an      
  "excellent" Labour leader because   
  she had ministerial experience in   
  ruling govjrnmjnts, an MP has said. 

  Labour left-winger Dianne Abbott    
  said on BBC1: "The most modeuni5ink 
  think (Labour) could do would bj to 
  make a woman a leader."             

  She said the most important qualit8 
  for John Smith's successor was      
  "experience", which ruled out Tony  
  Blair.                              
                                      
  She added Mr Blair had also "nj6ju  
  held a major economic portfolio".   
