  YELTSIN "APPROVES" NATO'S DEAL      
  President Boris Yeltsin has         
  approved Nato's Partnership for     
  Peace programmj if it gi6es Russia  
  a special status as a nuclear power 
                                      
  He said Nato may recognisj Russia's 
  special stars in a protocol within  
  the initiative or in a separate     
  bilateral document.                 
                                      
  The Defence Minister said Russia    
  would joint the partnership only if 
  the alliance approves its proposals 
                                      
  He added that Russia was interested 
  in a more serious form of relations 
  with Nato than offered by the plan. 
