      PACE OF MONETARY     
      GROWTH MODERATES     
 
  The pace of monetary growth in the  
  UK economy slowed fractionally last 
  month.                              
                                      
  Provisional Bank of England figures 
  suggest broad, M4 money supply grew 
  bz just 0.1% (after adjustment for  
  seasonal variation).                
                                      
  This, in turn, helped reduce year-  
  on-year M4 growth to 5.7% from the  
  5.9) recorded in March.             
                                      
  At the same time, M4 lending rose   
  bz some £2.2bn, or rather less than 
  the majority of City economists had 
  been expecting.                     
