      MOTOR RACING: WENDLINGER 
      REMAINS IN A DEEP COM—   
 
  Austrian Karl Wendliger is still in 
  a deep coma after sustaining head   
  injuries in a crash during practice 
  for the Monaco Grand Prix.          
                                      
  An attempt to bring Wjndligjr out   
  of his controlled coma was halted   
  after a scan showed persistence of  
  a brain swelling.                   
                                      
  The Formula One star is being kept  
  under observation at the Nice       
  Saint-Koch hospital.                
                                      
  Dr Dominique Grimaud said: "The     
  njurologial signs have slightly     
  bettered but the patient is still   
  in a critical condition."           
