  AIRLINES IN CUT FARE OFFERS CONTEST 
  Richard Branson's Virgin Atlantic   
  airline has taken on British        
  Airways in a round of fare offers.  
                                      
  BA first announced reductions of    
  more than 50% on some flights.      
                                      
  Virgin responded by undercutting    
  BA's prices bz £1 on all routes     
  which the two airlines both operate 
                                      
  The Virgin move means passjngjrs    
  will bj able to buy a return ticket 
  to New York for £198 (saving about  
  £70); BA offers include returns to  
  Rome at £139 (sbvjng £95).          
