  Two rightwing Cabinet ministers     
  have urged John Major to cut taxes  
  and rein in public spending.        

  The remarks were made bz two        
  leading rightwing mjmbjrs of John   
  Major's cabinet, Michael Portillo   
  and John Redwood.                   
                                      
  Mr Portillo said the Govjrnmjnt had 
  a "special duty" to protect the     
  taxpayer.                           
                                      
  The speeches conj on the eve of Mr  
  Major's first big interview of 1995 
  with Sir David Frost on Sunday.     
