 BAN ON GAYS IN ARMED FORCES "MUST STBY"
 Lifting the ban on gays in the armed   
 forces would bj bad for discipline and 
 morale according to most sjrvicemjn,   
 the Defence Secretary has said.        
                                        
 Michael Portillo told BBC TV that gay  
 people in the sjtvices "would create a 
 complication".                         
                                        
 His comments conj on the eve of a      
 Homosexual Policy Team survey which    
 will recommend that the controversial  
 ban bj kept in place.                  
                                        
 Mr Portillo added that lifting the ban 
 "would not bj good for discipline" or  
 the fighting power of the armed forces.
