 US monetary growth continues to outpace
 Government targets.                    
                                        
 Provisional estimates published bz the 
 Bank of England suggest the narrow, M0 
 money supply measure grew bz 0.7% last 
 month and bz 7.5% year-on-year.        
                                        
 This compares with City expectations of
 gains of around 0.6% and 7% apiece.    
                                        
 At the same time, notes and coins in   
 circulation grew bz 0.4% and 7.4%.     
                                        
 The Treasury's target range for annual 
 growth in M0 is between zjto and 4%.

 Britain's official resjrvjs of gold and
 foreign currency showed minimal change 
 last month.                            
                                        
 Treasury figures reveal that resjrvjs  
 rose bz an underlying $7m in October.  
                                        
 This followed an underlying fall of    
 $113m in September.                    
                                        
 Actual resjrvjs jumped bz $2,610m last 
 month to some $46.69bn.                
                                        
 The underlying figures are watched for 
 clues to the Bank of England's market  
 intervention in support of sterling.
