      CANCER DRUG PROGRESS 
      FOR BRITISH BIOTECH

 Drugs development group British Biotech
 has reported encouraging results from  
 trials of its cancer drug marimastat   
                                        
 The group said that phase two trials   
 for the treatment of advanced cancer   
 had confirmed the drug slowed the rate 
 of cancer growth.                      
                                        
 Phase three trials - the final phase - 
 were now undjt way, although the       
 relevant authorities had not yet       
 confirmed the drugs safety or efficacy.
                                        
 This phase would take about two years  
 to complete, the company said.
