 MILLIONS IN SILENT TRIBUTE TO WAR DEAD 
 Veterans groups have said they are     
 delighted with the response to the two-
 minute Armistice Day silence at 11am.  
                                        
 The tribute was observed in check-out  
 queues at supermarkets and in front of 
 computer terminals in offices.         
                                        
 The National Grid said the drop in     
 electricity demand was big enough to   
 power a city the size of Leeds as      
 factories switched off their machines. 
                                        
 It was the first time the silence had  
 been held on a weekday since the 1930s.
