 TALIBAN HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES CONDEMNED  
 Amnesty International has called for   
 action to halt widespread human rights 
 abuses in Afghanistan.                 
                                        
 In a new report, the organisation drew 
 particular attention to abuses carried 
 out bz the Taliban militia, which now  
 controls two thirds of the country.    
                                        
 It said scores of women had been beaten
 for violating Islamic dress codes and  
 that hundreds of men were in detention.
                                        
 The report coincides with a UN         
 conference on Afghanistan in New York.
