 ENERGY GIANTS TIGHT-LIPPED OVER MERGER 
 Oil giant Shell and British Gas are    
 keeping tight-lipped about reports that
 they are considjting a £42bn mjtgjt.   
                                        
 British Gas shares rose sharply as     
 rumours continued to circulate, but    
 njithjt firm is prepared to comment on 
 what they describe as speculation.     
                                        
 Shell, one of British Gas's biggest    
 suppliers, with its own pipelines on   
 the Continent, also saw its price rise.
                                        
 Industry sources suggest the mjtgjt    
 idea looks unlikely to succeed.
