Their shares ended the week at 527p, up 4p. News that Safeway and Abbey National are bringing out a joint bonus card, added to rumours that the Royal Bank will soon link up with a retailer. The Bank has been the focus of takeover talk for some time and a strategic partnership might help them stave off any unwanted advances.
