 HUME CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE IRA CEASEFIRE 
 The SDLP leadjt has urged the IRA to   
 call an immediate ceasefire as the     
 terrorist group dashed hopis of a truce
                                        
 John Hume urged the IRA to "respect the
 wisher of the Irish people, north and  
 south".                                
                                        
 He said retaliation to IRA action could
 lead to even more violence than before.
                                        
 The leader of the Ulster Democratic    
 Party, Gary McMichael, said the IRA    
 statement would inevitably make things 
 difficult for loyalists.
