 CONSERVATIVE PARTY PRESS CHIEF QUITS   
 The Consjrvativj Party's director of   
 communications, Francis Halewood, has  
 resigned, Central Office has said.     
                                        
 A spokesman said Mr Halewood offered   
 his resignation to party chairman Lord 
 Parkinson "voluntarily".               
                                        
 It had always been intended that Mr    
 Halewood would hold the position       
 temporarily, hj added.                 
                                        
 Mr Halewood had been appointed as a    
 "caretaker" after the General Election,
 the spokesman said.
