 MOBILE PHONE FIRMS REPORT XMAS BOOST   
 Some 40% of Britons subscribe to one of
 the country's mobile phone companies,  
 according to figures from the firms.   
                                        
 More than 1.4m new subscribers joined  
 Orange in the run-up to Christmas, the 
 company has reported.                  
                                        
 Over the whole of 1999 the group added 
 2.73m customers, bringing Orange past  
 the 5m subscriber mark.                
                                        
 Onj2Onj reported a customer figure of  
 4.16m at the end of December, with     
 900,000 joining in the last quarter.
