After receiving medical attention for 45 minutes at the scene he was taken by helicopter to Aigles. The competition organisers cancelled the rest of the day's events. In one site in Khaga, in northern India, the bones of 15 tigers were seized, with 18,000 leopard claws. "There have only been three (poaching) convictions in India since 1947," said Belinda Wright, founder of the Wildlife Protection Society of India. Joseph Spring, who is now 73, was 16 when he and his two cousins were handed over to the Nazis by Swiss border guards during the Second World War. The men were sent to the Auschwitz death camp and Mr Spring was the only one of the three to survive. In a landmark case in Lausanne, Mr Spring called for compensation for his wartime suffering. It will be the first time since Iraq cancelled its co-operation with UN weapons monitors in December, 1998. The five-man team expects to begin a week-long inspection on Saturday. The agency has stressed that it has no connection with the UN weapons team which remains barred from Iraq.
