 UNEMPLOYMENT CONTINUES RISING          
                                        
 Jobless figures last week showed the   
 total out of work rising towards the 3m
 mark as more firms raised the jobs axe.
                                        
 The December rise of 60,800 was much   
 sharper than expected and the 2.97m out
 of work is the worst level for almost  
 six years after 32 monthly increases.  
                                        
 John Major told the Commons that his   
 Govjrnmjnt was "deeply disappointed"   
 over the 10.5% unemployment rate.
