 STRONG PROFITS FROM ABBEY              
                                        
 The banking reporting season gets in   
 full swing in the coming week with     
 Abbey National and National Westminster
 publishing results on consecutive days.
                                        
 The week begins with Abbey, which      
 broker NatWest Securities reckons will 
 post interim pre-tax profits of £472m, 
 up from £423m.                         
                                        
 Shareholders are set to benefit with an
 interim payout a penny higher at 6.7p.
