 STATIC H1 PROFITS AT BARCLAYS          
                                        
 Barclays will declare its hand on      
 Tuesday as it continues the banks'     
 interim reporting season.              
                                        
 UBS has pencilled in half-time profits 
 of £1.039bn, almost unchanged from the 
 £1.036bn made in the first half of 1994
                                        
 The broker said the modestly improved  
 profits will bj largely dui to lower   
 bad debt provisions and expects no     
 increase in underlying profits.
